An exterior corridor hotel designed for the Pacific Coast road trip in Monterey was bursting with potential. But not with personality. We were tasked with utilizing the location and character of the building to connect those seeking harmony and joy with the ocean, the Monterey community and each other.

Monterey Beach Hotel finds itself literal steps from the Pacific Ocean and a few wheel rotations from the most famous highway in America. On top of a surreal location with stunning sunsets seven nights a week, Monterey Beach Hotel truly connects with one of the most talented and unique communities in Central California. This is a hotel built on natural and communal partnerships.
A community and hotel that draw their energy from the natural beauty of their surroundings.
Monterey Beach Hotel truly believes that the only way to be embraced by its surroundings and community is to embrace it first and embody it completely.
While the visuals mark a clear delineation from the hotel’s natural surroundings, the brand activation connects with the vibrant Monterey Peninsula culture. Events like impromptu concerts in the courtyard and wine pairing dinners hosted by winery owners down the road are all possible and frequent because of the partnerships and friendships made with the neighbors.
The palette mimics Monterey Bay's natural hues, as colors like Bay and Kelp feel like a cool morning mist, while Seafoam and Coastal Sun connect sea and sky. You don't even have to look too far to find the inspiration for the icon and pattern, as they simultaneously represent both Monterey's famous Lone Cypress Tree and Monterey Bay's deep water corals.
A True Monterey Experience
Like a brand right out of a travel magazine, Monterey Beach Hotel’s brand is organically sophisticated. A layered design is reminiscent of travelers collaging their experiences with flowing images and patterns, reflecting a flowing oceanic feel.
