French Leave Resort
Shaner Hotel Group was in the midst of adding villas and converting a condo development into a Marriott Autograph Collection property. The development was called French Leave, but what did it mean? B&Co. was hired to fully develop the brand.
To tell the story of this magical place, we explored the island, spoke to locals and learned the history behind the phrase French Leave – a British term, meaning to escape without notice. To greet guests after a long flight to Governor’s Harbour on the Island of Eleuthera and a dusty taxi ride, we suggested the creation of The Governor House – an open-air arrival villa where guests are greeted with a cool beverage and whisked off to their villa in their own golf cart. A distinct Mark of this #112 Autograph Collection resort.
From an amazing arrival experience to personal notes written by staff upon departure, French Leave Resort delivers an extraordinary destination worlds away from the stress of everyday life.
It’s not easy to reach French Leave Resort on the narrow island of Eleuthera. So, we made arriving part of the experience.
Turquoise-blue water and dancing clouds inspired the visual branding, while the concept of a complete island escape inspired the guest experience.
A Carefree Retreat
French Leave Resort is a place of serenity, where guests should always feel untroubled by everyday concerns. To inspire tranquility, we leaned into natural elements to design everything from the visual identity and watercolor resort map to the clever Do Knot Disturb door hangers and unobtrusive wayfinding signage.
The very essence of French Leave Resort defines escapism. The island itself is a well-kept secret, and so the brand experience needed to convey this sanctuary. Guest amenities, pool activations and sunset traditions all play a role in delivering on this rare Bahamian resort.
