Maison Twenty Seven
Channeling the spirit of le bien-être
Our team was hired to rebrand an historic 38-room property in Santa Monica – our second conversion of a Palihouse to an independent hotel. We built on the rich character, renamed the villa, and created a visual identity that drew inspiration from the enchanting architecture.

At Maison Twenty Seven, French Mediterranean summer is reimagined through a modern Southern California lens.
A Historical Property
Originally built in 1927 as the Embassy Hotel Apartments, the property’s enduring Mediterranean Revival architecture remained intact—its bones strong, its intimate charm unmistakable. Our goal was to elicit that same sense of tranquility, inviting guests to slow down and smell the roses in a setting where soul, spirit, and life are honored through every detail of the brand experience.
Elevated freshness grounded in rich heritage.
Mediterranean Ease
Guest room books, property journals, and various walking maps immerse guests in their own private experience while listening vignettes and concierge boards create a sense of connection to Santa Monica. We incorporated soft-lit, black-and-white imagery, nods to the transitional period of the late 1920s, giving the atmosphere an air of timelessness.
A palette of warm creams, rich browns, and deep greens draws from the building’s historic tones and lush courtyard, creating a sense of calm continuity throughout the space. The identity feels relaxed yet refined, with design cues pulled from vintage parfum labels and hand-drawn illustrations that evoke a leisurely, intentional, and more romantic era.
Inspired by the finer things.
Modern but Historic
Custom iconography and patterns pull from architectural details found throughout the property—from ornamental ironwork to structural elements—creating a visual system that feels grounded and expressive. Triple-lined borders, inspired by the building’s wood beams, frame content with quiet structure, while decorative frames and patterns add moments of softness and ornamentation.
Branded collateral is tactile and considered—painted signage, textured papers, and subtle foil accents enhance everyday touchpoints, creating an experience that is undeniably memorable.
