The Camp at Carmel Valley

Finding joy in the great outdoors

THE CHALLENGE

A storied campground established for girls in 1925, this idyllic property in Carmel Valley was purchased by a veteran hotelier with a vision - to give the tech hubs of San Francisco and L.A. a way to experience nature and hospitality the old-fashioned way.

A no-frills, authentic camp experience in the heart of the rolling hills of California means finding a new kind of joy.

Operating for over 80 years as the Douglas Ranch Camp for Girls, the founder decided it was time to pass the torch onto a new visionary. By celebrating what so many had come to love about the camp for so long, a new but familiar experience was born. Crafts and hiking, morning flag raising, and kitchen patrol are just a few of the traditions being kept alive in the valley, resulting in a much-needed “getaway” experience for many.

The love of authenticity, the importance of traditions, and the joy in the simple things helped us find the trail forward.

B&Co. was at the table shortly after new ownership took over the property and helped brainstorm and identify what made the property so special in the first place. We were then charged with creating a brand that felt as time-honored and fun as the property itself that could also be expressed in all the ways you’d come to expect at camp.

From earned badges to trail maps to signage for the archery range, our team helped create a seamless identity that could be found in every email but also at every trailhead. Language was crafted to invite guests to unplug and connect with more than just WiFi. Wayfinding and welcome letters tell the story while helping guests find their way. The cohesive identity gives the unassuming experience an established look and feel and a warm, welcoming personality.
