Pairing a restaurant concept with its brand

THE CHALLENGE

The growing dining scene in Colorado Springs is comprised of everything from ethnic foods to Western steakhouses. But the community currently had no option to celebrate great wines and natural meat and cheese pairings together. The question was, how would we pair solid branding with a solid concept.

The first and only wine and cheese bar in Colorado Springs

A toast to the origins of the establishment’s core identity, Vine & Wheel introduces a story of wine and cheese to its connoisseurs. Colorado Springs sits advantageously among agriculture opportunities that provide fine tastes from wines to meats to cheeses. The imagery of Vine & Wheel’s grapevine intertwined with a wheel of cheese gives people a strong and tangible idea of what to expect and enjoy in town.

A COLOR PALETTE FOR THOSE WITH A DISCERNING PALATE

Provided with the concept but tasked with creating a brand reflective of the palates of Colorado Springs, we set off on naming. Sounding like a neighborhood street corner, Vine & Wheel was chosen because of its familiar invitation while still communicating its offerings as the only true wine and cheese bar in Colorado Springs.

The visual identity was paired as meticulously as a Pinot Noir with a local goat cheese. The colors represent the subtle differences of the food and drink found on the bar and on tabletops. The Vine & Wheel wordmark and icon were crafted to be etched into metallic signage large and small, a quiet nod to the handcrafted nature of the menu.
